In a college town we have lots of folks going on sabbaticals regularly, and many of them own convertibles. It may not seem like much of an issue but it really does matter whether or not you leave your convertible top up or down when storing it for long periods of time.
The best practice is to store the car with the top up. The top is not only designed to keep out rain and leaves, but also dust and other unwelcome guests, such as mice. Another benefit to storing your convertible with the top up is that it won’t crease. Often, tops kept up for long periods of time will develop a crease. They can be removed, but why go through such a bother?
When you get back from your sabbatical, or trip, bring your convertible in for an inspection to make sure your tires and brakes are safe and running smoothly.
